A cover arrangement for a casting ladle is made in two parts: a circular outer section is attached rigidly to the ladle by a spring-loaded connection and a middle section corresp. to the opening in the outer section corresp. to the opening in the outer section. The latter has a locking mechanism consisting of stop and guide plates fixed to the outer section and a stirrup on the middle section which can be swivelled and has side projections which can be brought into engagement with the plates. If required the cover can be made in segments. Manipulation of the middle section is easier than with one-piece covers and the permanent connection between the outer section and the ladle ensures a seal and avoids refractory damage.
