Novel azo dyes are free from sulpho and carboxyl groups. They correspond to the formula <IMAGE> in which D, R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, Q, X, Y and n have the meanings given in Patent Claim 1. The azo dyes of formula I are prepared by a process wherein 1a) an amine of formula D-NH2 is diazotised and 1b) the resulting diazonium salt is coupled, in an acid medium, with an appropriate coupling component, or 2a) an amine of formula D-NH2 is diazotised, 2b) the resulting diazonium salt is coupled with an appropriate coupling component in which, however, the group -Q<(+)>1 DIVIDED nX<n-> is replaced by R<4> and 2c) the resulting compound is reacted with a tertiary heterocyclic base to give a compound of formula I, wherein Q has the meaning given in Patent Claim 7. R<4> in this context has the meaning given in Patent Claim 7. The new dyes are suitable for dyeing or printing polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile and dicyanoethylene and also for dyeing or printing acid-modified polyesters and polyamides. |
