An inductive heating coil is based upon vertically arranged coils collected together in groups, rather than the conventional spiral formed coil. The general layout of the induction element consists of a number of straight windings located in groups between two end conductors coupled to supply connectors. Free space is generally provided between adjacent windings. When maximum load capacity is required all windings within a group are switched such that the currents are of the same direction. When the windings must have the same supply voltage then a single supply terminal is used; when this is not the case a number of distributed supply points may be used.
