High strength pillars for bridges or other structures - using prefabricated cement-asbestos elements filled with concrete

Hollow pillars, filled with concrete and employed to carry bridges or conveyor frames consist of a vertical stack of hollow, double-walled elements made of fibre-reinforced cement. Each prefabricated element is ring or box shaped and open at both the top and the bottom. The two walls are joined together by webs or distance pieces, and the gaps between the walls are also filled with concrete which may be reinforced by steel. The elements are pref. made of asbestos cement, and the mating surfaces of the elements are pref. stuck together using an epoxy resin adhesive. A very strong supporting structure is obtd. which will withstand bending loads, and is suitable e.g., for overhead roads.
