Printing unit with longitudiannly moving printing wires employs an ink feed system which is suitable for high speed printing and directly links-up the ends of the wires. The ink travels by capillary action through the channels which guide the wires and thence up to the wire ends. The ink-supply chamber (2) and the ink surface (11) lie below the printing wires. The ink (1) travels with capillary action through a narrow channel (5) between the chamber and all the guide channels (3) for the wires (6). The uniformity of ink supply and the contrast of the printd symbol is further improved by the incorporation of an additional capillary tube (7) located between the first channel (5) and the front ends of the printing wires.
