The rhythm source is used to provide the rhythm of a piece of music, with its given variations. The information relating to the harmonies and characteristics of the piece of music are stored in respective storage locations of a store including a cycle store, for storing the timing of the music. The rhythm is displayed as an acoustic, optical or electrical signal, with the signal magnitude being adjustable. The rhythm source is pref. formed by integrated circuit techniques and employs a clock counter, a beat adjuster jand a tempo input, the beats counted by a beat counter, also receiving a signal from the tempo input.
