The disc brake for railway rolling stock has a brake shoe (1) with a longitudinal slot of trapezoidal cross section into which the brake lining is fitted in the form of a dovetail joint. The brake lining is retained in position by swinging keeper bars (5) secured by bolts (15) and nuts (17). The round heads (13) of the bolts (15) are guided in holes in bosses (11) at the outer ends of the brake shoe (1). This method of retaining the brake lining resists the tangential forces which are generated when the brake is applied and which tend to slide the brake lining out of its groove.
