1531732 Reinforced hoses GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 May 1976 [6 June 1975] 24505/75 Heading F2P An elastomeric, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber, hose comprises at least one layer 8, 10 of wound monofilament synthetic plastics material and at least one layer 6 of fabric, e.g. square-woven or cord, made from aramid fibres. Each layer of monofilament material 8, 10 and fabric 6 may comprise a multi-layer structure, e.g. 2, 4, 6 or 8 superimposed layers. Preferably two layers 8, 10 of monofilament material are present separated by a layer 9 of elastomer that is either at least “ inch thick or (5-10) % of the hose outside diameter. A single fabric layer 6 is adhered 7 to one of the monofilament material layers 8, 10 either between the monofilament material layers or outside them. The monofilament material is preferably polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, although other polymers may be used, e.g. nylon; preferred yarn parameters are specified for both the monofilament 8, 10 and the aramid fabric 6. The monofilament layers 8, 10 are wound at between 50 and 60 degrees to the hose axis and the fabric 6 oriented with warp at 50-60 degrees to the hose axis; the orientation of the monofilament layers 8, 10 is in the opposite sense. In the case of multi-layers 6, 8, 10 adjacent components are wound or laid in opposite senses. A rubber liner 5 and cover 11 with layers of breaker fabric (not shown) complete the hose. |
