1471696 Sliding clasp fastener manufacture OPTI PATENT-FORSCHUNGS-UND-FABRIKATIONS AG 6 June 1974 [9 June 1973] 25092/74 Addition to 1364543 Heading E2S A device, for manufacturing a row of slide fastener coupling elements from plastics monofilament 13 each coupling element having a stamped coupling head 5 and two shanks 6 with the shanks of adjacent coupling elements being interconnected by interconnecting portions 7, comprises a forming element 1 having spaced teeth 2 and which, in use, is driven continuously, and a monofilament laying mechanism which has a pressing element 10a with a curved guide track 11 extending towards the spaced teeth 2 of the forming element, and a conveyor element 12a which is movable along a path corresponding to the curvature of the guide track for conveying and guiding the monofilament between the guide track 11 and the conveyor 12a and onto the forming element 1, the conveyor element having at least one stamping cam 14 and the conveyor element and the pressing element 12a being drivable so as to coact to provide a stamping effect for stamping the coupling heads on the monofilament, the stamping cam operating to remain in engagement with the monofilament after the formation of each coupling head so as to clamp against the coupling head, and then being movable along said guide track to convey the monofilament and form it into the row of fastener coupling elements on the forming element with the shanks of each coupling element lying one above the other and between teeth 2 of the forming element and the interconnecting portions 7 each engaging one of said teeth. The laying mechanism described and illustrated is of the same construction as that disclosed in the first embodiment of the main specification however, in the present device, the forming element 1 is driven continuously and in synchronism with step-by-step feed of the laying mechanism 3. In an alternative arrangement in which each fastener element of each row is formed simultaneously with a fastener element of the other row the laying mechanisms are located in staggered relationship with regard to the direction of movement of the forming element. The forming strip 1 may be replaced by a forming wheel.
