1471479 Nitrothiazole azo dyes SANDOZ Ltd 16 July 1974 [17 July 1973] 31408/74 Heading C4P Novel dyes of low solubility in water have the formula in which R 1 is H, C 1-6 alkyl, phenyl, or phenyl substituted by CN and/or up to three substituents selected from Cl and Br, each of R 2 and R 3 independently signifies H, C 2-6 alkenyl, C 5-7 cycloalkyl, unsubstituted C 1-6 alkyl or C 1-6 alkyl substituted by a cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl radical each of which contains 5-8 C, with the proviso that when one of R 2 and R 3 is H, the other has a significance other than H, R 4 signifies anα- or #-chloro- or bromo-ethyl radical, R 5 is H, OMe or OEt, and X is -CO- or -COO-. The dyes prepared by diazotization and coupling, are useful as disperse dyes giving blue hues on linear or aromatic polyesters, cellulose acetates and synthetic polyamide fibres and fabrics.
