1471601 Fuels; lubricants TOH NENRYO KOGYO KK 26 June 1974 28252/74 Headings C5F and C5G [Also in Division C3] Lubricating and fuel oil compositions comprise ashless detergent dispersant additive prepared by (A) reacting an alkenyl dicarboxylic acid or anhydride with a dialkanolamine HN(R<SP>1</SP>OH) 2 where R<SP>1</SP> is C 2-10 alkylene, in a molar ratio of 1 : 0À05 to 1 : 0À65, and (B) reacting the resulting intermediate with a C 2-12 alkylamine or an amine of formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene and n is 1 to 6, in a molar ratio based on the acid or anhydride of 1 : 0À1 to 1 : 0À5, to obtain a product having ester, amide and imide linkages. The fuel may be a gasoline or other petroleum fraction. The lubricating oil may be a petroleum oil or a synthetic lubricant, e.g. an ester, polyphenylene ether or polyolefin; and may also contain conventional antioxidants, e.g. metal dialkyl dithiophosphates, viscosity index improvers, e.g. polymethacrylic acid salts and olefin copolymers, and metallic detergent dispersants, e.g. alkaline earth metal alkyl phenoxides. Examples describe additives prepared by reacting polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride with (1, 2 and 4) diethanolamine and tetraethylene pentamine and (3) diisopropanolamine and N- aminoethyl piperazine, and mineral lubricating oil compositions thereof also comprising a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate, viscosity index improver, pour point depressant, defoaming agent and metallic detergent dispersant. |
