1500454 Conveyer systems GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 29 April 1976 [22 May 1975] 17450/76 Heading B8A [Also in Division H5] Apparatus for treating lengths of material, e.g. tyre rubber, with high voltage electron beam radiation, comprises at least one source S of such radiation in a chamber 12 having labyrinthine entry and exit passages P-1, P-2, a plurality of parallel side-by-side coplanar conveyers C-1, C-2 (see Fig. 2, not shown), which travel through the chamber 12 and have independent drives able to run at different speeds from one another, unwinding means L-1, L-2, L-3 for delivering lengths of material to the conveyers, and winding means W-1 W-2, W-3 for receiving lengths of treated material from the conveyers. The conveyer drives may alternatively be synchronized for the treatment of wide lengths of material. The radiation sources S are each rotatably mounted on a traversing plate 36 which is movable along a pair of rails 38 transversely spanning the conveyers (see Fig. 2). Retroactive control systems for the conveyer drives and source positioning drives are described. |
