The alkaloid cuanzine having cardiovascular activity - prepd by extraction of Voacanga species

The alkaloid cuanzine of formula (I) and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts are new: (I) is prepd. by extracting plant tissue of the genus Voacanga. (I) and its salts have cardiovascular, esp. antiarrhythmic, vasodilating and antihypertensive, activities. They are presented is usual forms for oral or parenteral administration using unit doses of 10-100 mg.
