1397293 Dehydrocyclization BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 27 July 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 40668/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Hydrocarbons are dehydrogenated and/or dehydrocyclized by contact with a catalyst comprising 0À01 to 5% wt. of platinum, a carbon support and from 5 to 100 atomic per cent, based on the platinum, of an alkali metal ion or alkaline earth metal ion. Specified reaction conditions are 200-600‹ C., a pressure of 1-210 bars, a space velocity of 0À01-20 v./v./hr. and a hydrogen : hydrocarbon mole ratio of 0 : 1- 20 : 1. Specified feeds are acyclic straight chain hydrocarbons having at least 6 carbon atoms or branched hydrocarbons having a straight chain of at least 6 carbon atoms, e.g. olefins, or C 6 - C 10 paraffins. Mixed feeds may be used, and the mixture may also contain naphthenes and aromatics, e.g. petroleum fractions of b.pt. 60- 250‹ C. The sulphur content of the feed should be below 10 p.p.m. wt. The examples describe the conversion of n-hexane to benzene and byproducts. |
