A differential flux electrical generator, is designed to provide a differential flux at the core of the machine without the use of an opposition circuit. It is also intended to reduce the weight of the active iron elements by nearly 50%. The total cross-section of the ferromagnetic return circuits is four times lower than that of the principle segment, the differential winding flux being approx. half that passing through this segment. The return circuit segments may be in the form of arcs of 'U' shapes and may be of a different material to that of the principle segment. Switching is by triacs or thyristors allowing the design of sheet A.C. motors. |
