Prefabricated hearth for open wood fires - which may be installed in any chimney without the need for masonry work

The hearth has a cast iron grate which is fitted onto a pre-fabricated base (4). The base also houses the ash pan which rests on a lower plate. The rear of the grate rests on the lower edge of a fire back plate also in cast iron. One side of the grate may be used for housing and storing logs. The inside of the flue (8) is fitted with a deflector plate which connects with a damper just below the outlet to the hearth. The damper may be controlled manually from the front of the fireplace.
