<p>Cartridge is made up of an outer casing sheet that encloses a series of first and second support layers, in the form of bands superimposed on each other, all coiled in a spiral fashion. Between the first and second layers of the support in band form is a flattened tubular dialysis membrane that covers the whole length of the support layers. The surfaces of the support layers facing the membrane have a multitude of streamlined projections. Also between the support layer surfaces sandwiching the membrane is one or more spacer strips that run the whole length of one or more edges of the support layers. Cartridge is useful for external artificial kidneys or in blood oxygenating apparatus. It allows the construction of a cylindrical cartridge for dialysis without any possibility of incurring constrictions in the membrane flow passage. Also allows the size of membrane flow passage to be selected at will no matter how much the convolutions of the spiral are tightened.</p> |
