Spiro-morpholino-piperazinium salts prodn. - by halogenating and cyclising hydroxy-ethoxy-ethyl piperazines, useful as cytostatics, anticancer agents and tranquillisers

Prodn. of piperazine derivs. of formula (I) comprises reacting the alcohol of formula (II) with a halogenating agent to give the corresp. halo-intermediate as hydrochloride, then neutralising this to the free base and cyclising with anhydrous acid in presence of an inert solvent. (where X is halo. n = 0 or 1. Y is not defined). (I) are cytostatics, anticancer agents and tranquillisers. They are less toxic than known cytostatics (no figures) and are given e.g. orally at 1-50 mg/kg. Generally cpds. with n=1 are more active.
