<p>A cam follower (1) is displaced by a cam (C) and in turn moves a push rod (3). The cam follower body (2) has an inner cylinder (5) with three sections (5a,5b,5c) of increasing diameter. The narrowest section contains a spring (7) which presses on a piston (4) in the next section. When the spring is fully compressed the back of the piston seats on the ridge (5d) between the two cylinder sections (5c,5b). The front of the piston has a semi-spherical recess in which the end (3a) of the push rod (3) seats. As the tappet wears, the spring pushes the piston forward, and with it the push rod to take up the clearance resulting from wear.</p> |
