Fermentation vessel mixing device - with vertical rotating shaft and freely revolving paddles on drive arms

A mixing device for fluids which have to be aerated in a fermentation tank or bioreactor consists of a vertical revolving shaft with paddles, parallel to the shaft. Each paddle is supported by stub shafts in drive arms at each end so that they can revolve freely around their centre line. The paddles which can have a spiral shape are kept in rotation as the shaft revolves. They can be made of stainless steel or of plastics. The device saves 45-50% of the drive power required for the same mixing performance.
