1509498 Making glass melts CRYSTALEX OBOROVY PODNIK 19 Oct 1976 [21 Oct 1975] 43255/76 Heading C1M In preparing a glass melt for manual working, an electric furnace with horizontal heating electrodes having a submerged throat for passage of the melt to the working chamber is used, and the melt surface in the furnace is maintained at a distance above the electrodes which is never less than six times the smallest vertical dimension of any of the electrodes and the ratio of surface areas of the working chamber/the furnace is made equal to one to two. The required dimension in the case of rod electrodes is the cross-sectional diameter; for coloured glass the working chamber is supplied with colour concentrate at or near the bottom of the chamber under an automatically adjustable hydrostatic pressure; and the chamber is provided with heating and homogenizing means. More than one working chamber may be provided. |
