1470852 Alkylbenzenes by hydrogenating ketones and alcohols SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 21 May 1974 [23 May 1973] 22686/74 Heading C5E Alkylbenzenes are prepared by hydrogenolysis of phenyl alkyl ketones and/or phenyl alcohols (in which the Ph and OH groups are attached to one carbon atom) by contact, at above 175‹ C. in the gas phase in the presence of H 2 , with a supported group VIII noble metal catalyst at a space velocity of 2-200 l./kg./hour. The catalyst support may be alumina. Examples describe the preparation of ethylbenzene from methylphenylketone, 1-phenylethanol and mixtures thereof. |
