Engine comprises two toroidal cylinder chambers around a common shaft, each containing two rigidly connected, opposed, toroidal pistons. The chambers are connected by ducts for the transfer of gases via timed valves, the gases being compressed in the first chamber and ignited and expanded in the second to produce two cycles per revolution. The valves are rotary valves rotating about an axis parallel to the shaft and are arranged on the circular centre line of the toroidal chambers. They are actuated by cams so that, during their momentary open position, they allow a piston to pass through. The cams are arranged on a cam disc and actuate an element which rotates the valves through 90 deg.
