Stirring and mixing device has electric motor with a coupling joining the stirrer shaft to the motor. This motor is surrounded by a tubular housing so as to form a vertical duct around it. The housing is carried by the same support as the motor e.g. by a mounting plate. The power inlet to the housing is in about the same plane as the coupling on the shaft. The agitator assembly is then formed from a shaft with an impeller on the end joined to the motor shaft via a coupling. The housing contains a number of slots to allow passage of air. Used with chemical reactions where increases in viscosity ion occur during the course of the reaction. As the viscosity increases, the loading of the motor also increases tougher with the heat generated. If the motor overheats, its insulation melts and it burns out. This could be a fire hazard. Simple overloads could cause problems in the plant operation. The cooling system described avoids this.
|
