1471248 Nitrofuryl derivatives and pharmaceutical compositions containing them BYK GULDEN LOMBERG CHEMISCHE FABRIK GmbH 13 Oct 1975 [15 Oct 1974] 41846/75 Headings C2C and C2P The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents a (C 1-6 ) alkyl group and R<SP>2</SP> represents H, Cl, Br, -OH, -SO 2 , -NH 2 or a C 1-4 alkyl group. These compounds may be prepared by reacting 3-(5-nitro-2-furyl)- acrylaldehyde of formula with an aromatic carboxylic acid hydrazide of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are as defined above. The following intermediates are prepared in the examples: o-Toluoyl hydrazide by the reaction of otoluoylic acid with hydrazine hydrate. 3 - (5 - Nitro - 2 - furyl) - acrylaldehyde by the reaction of 5-nitro-2-furylaldehyde with acetaldehyde. Ethyl o-bromomethyl-benzoate by esterifying o-bromomethyl-benzoic acid with ethanol in the presence of thionyl chloride and dimethyl formamide. (o - Ethoxycarbonylbenzyl) - triphenylphosphonium bromide by treating the afore -mentioned ester with triphenyl phosphine. Ethyl - o - (1 - butenyl) - benzoate by reacting the above phosphonium salt with butyl lithium in n-heptane. o-n-Butyl benzhydrazide by reducing the above ester with hydrogen in the presence of Pd/ carbon catalyst. The invention also comprises a pharmaceutical composition which contains as an active ingredient a compound according to the invention in association with a pharmaceutical carrier. |
