The elastic covering for table tennis bats has two smooth cover layers enclosing a layer with hollow spaces filled with air. The hollow spaces are tightly sealed both against each other and against the outside air. At least one of the two cover layers is fitted with recessess to form the air filled hollow spaces. Within the air filled hollow spaces the air is at a higher pressure than the outside air. The object of this type of table tennis bat construction is to increase the ball speed during the game.
