The juice extractor has an inner compartment (3) with a perforated wall (4) and a base (6) with a bayonet clip attachment (8). The fruit is placed in the compartment (3) where it is compressed by the piston (11) and the juice is forced into the outer compartment (52). The piston (11) is normally held in its upper position by the tension spring (19). The piston (11) is forced downwards by an upward movement of the lever (36) which drives the pinion (39) through the lower pawl (4). The pinion (39) meshes with a rack on the tubular piston rod (15). The upper pawl (44) prevents the pinion (39) rotating in the reverse direction but can be released by pressing the button (48).
