The gel may be polyvinyl alcohol, gelatin or colloidal silica and is coated on cellulose membranes a, a 1 which are heat sealed to vinyl chloride holding rings c, c 1 . The separator is used in a cell containing a cathode 4 of silver oxide and graphite, a nylon cloth 8, a paper layer 6 which absorbs the alkali electrolyte and an amalgamated zinc powder anode 3. Alternatively the cathode may comprise mercury oxide or manganese dioxide and the anode may be zinc dioxide. |
