<p>Prodn. of aq. polyvinyl ester dispersion by homopolymerisation of vinyl ester (I) or copolymerisation with modifying comonomers (II) in aq. dispersion in the absence of a protective colloid and in the presence of an anionic emulsified. The pH is kept constant at 4-6.8, pref. 4.5-6.2 throughout polymerisation. The pH is maintained by addn. of alkali or buffer. Prods. are binders for paints, paper sizes etc. Fine dispersions are obtd., which are stable on storage and towards shear and are compatible with finely-divided inorganic pigments and extenders.</p> |
