The locking device for a safety belt retracton coil has a locking member which engages with tooth form attachments on the belt coil up drum. A return spring system operates when the rate of uncoiling of the belt exceeds a predetermined value. At least one pendulum device is mounted to the locking device such that it can move radially. The pendulum can move into a position in which it prevents the locking device from mating up with the locking disc under the centrifugal forces operating when the belt is being uncoiled.
