The lower longitudinal slide loading has a light metal construction to reduce the weight of a boring machine's moving parts. The cross slide motor is on the machine frame instead of on the longitudinal slide. The longitudinal slide (2), on bed (5) rails (6), carries the cross slide (3) on rails (7). A stepping motor (12), attached to the frame (1), axially displaces a screw (13) and rod (11). A rod head (10) roller connects to a cross-slide bar (9). Alternatively an axially fixed screw translates a rod slide, on rails on the motor bracket (15). A ball connected rod head may work with a V-guideway in the cross slide.
