<p>Turbine horizontal shaft (2) mounted on the top of a tower, carries a number of blades (1) arranged circumferentially round it and attached to it by means of pins (3) which are in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. In normal operation centrifugal force on the baldes brings them into a position (1) perpendicular to the shaft. If the window force increases while the rotational speed is maintain constant by an appropriate control system the blades pivot about their pins into an inclined position (a). This prevents an increase in the bending moments due to wind force and the action thus automatically prevents overloads. Springs (4) between the blade pins (3) bring the blades back into the perpendicular position at standstill.</p> |
