A tyre tread or tyre tread ring is placed on the carcase of the worn pneumatic or solid rubber tyre and a rubber binder layer assembly which has a rough surface on its underside, pref. produced simultaneously with the tread in the press mould and capable of being bonded. The gaseous inclusions are carried away from the layers by the application of a pipe connected to a source of reduced pressure, the lateral outlet openings of the superimposed layers being sealed off by this reduced pressure and/or by expression by exciting pressure on the tyre tread. The mfg. steps are simplified and the tyre may be vulcanised in the press chamber without the use of the usual envelope which is costly and as well as requiring careful handling if it is not to be damaged.
