1463956 Treatment of metallurgical slag ENTREPRISE GAGNERAUD PERE ET FILS 21 Feb 1975 [21 Oct 1974] 7408/75 Heading C1K Metallurgical slags and drosses are treated to make them easier to break up or crush by injecting into the slag and/or dross, while it is still hot and molten from a metallurgical process, a foaming agent in the form of at least one dry powdered inorganic metal carbonate (other than an alkali metal carbonate) which decomposes thermally in the hot and molten slag and/or dross, liberating a gaseous oxide of carbon in the slag and/or dross. The carbonate may be of an alkaline earth metal, iron, copper, lead, or zinc. The carbonate or mixture of carbonates may be in the form of a naturally occurring mineral, e.g. limestone, calcite, aragonite, siderite, cerussite, or smithsonite. The dry powdered material may be injected in a jet of compressed gas into the molten slag during the pouring of the slag from the tap hole of a blast furnace, or from the outlet of some other vessel containing the molten slag, into a cooling pit. |
