VERFAHREN ZUR HERSTELLUNG EINER AROMATISCHEN HYDROXYVERBINDUNG UND EINES ALIPHATISCHEN KETONS

Prepn. of an aromatic hydroxy cpd. (I) and an aliphatic ketone (II), comprises acid-catalysed cleavage of an oxidation prod. (III), contg. the hydroperoxide of a sec. alkyl-substd. aromatic hydrocarbon, to which has been added >=1 phenolic or amine-type antioxidnt (IV). Pref. (IV) is used at >=0.001 wt. % on (III) and can be added before or during the cleavage reaction. (IV) reduces formation of byprods. such as methylstyrene, acetophenone and tars, so increases the yields of (I) and (II). In an example cumene hydroperoxide was decomposed with H2SO4 in the presence of 0.01 wt. % 2,6-di-tert. butyl-4. methylphenol to give 95% yields of both phenol and acetone.
