<p>1491186 Junction pieces KENDALL CO 22 June 1976 [26 June 1975] 25924/76 Heading F2G A device for use in aspirating body fluids from a patient comprises an assembly 16 having an inlet port 34, for connection to a hollow needle (not shown) and to the patient, an outlet port 36 for connection to a syringe (not shown), a passageway 38 connecting the ports 34, 36 and containing a one-way ball valve 40 allowing fluid flow from the port 34 to the port 36 but not in the reverse direction, an opening 48 in the passageway 38 leading to a port 46 via a one-way ball valve 50, the port 46 being connected to a collection bag (not shown) whereby fluid may be withdrawn from the patient by way of the needle and by withdrawal of the plunger in the syringe, reverse movement of the plunger then passing the fluid to the collection bag by way of the port 46. A further port 32 leads from an opening 91 in the passageway 38 between the inlet port 34 and the valve 40 and this port 32 is normally closed by a flexible plug 92 which can however be punctured by a needle if it is desired to inject a fluid into the passageway 38 and the hollow needle leading to the patient. The plug will re-seal on removal of the needle. As an alternative to the plug 92, the port 32 may be provided with a member 110 (Fig. 7) enclosing a valve member 120 held against a seat 112 by a spring 122 unless opened by the tip 140 of a syringe 138 having a screw-threaded flange 136 to screw on to a flange 134 on the member 110. The valve member 120 is externally ribbed to allow passage of fluid when the valve is open.</p> |
