1533406 Polyvinylpyrrolidone/iodide granules; and complexes thereof CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 Dec 1975 [2 Dec 1974] 49474/75 Headings C3L and C3P Free-flowing granules consisting of PVP and iodide are obtained by uniformly mixing in small portions (a) a solution, sol or suspension of an iodide-releasing substance in a first solvent or solvent mixture, and (b) a solution, sol or suspension of PVP in a second solvent or solvent mixture which has a surface tension different from the first solvent, and in which PVP is at least partially soluble or wettable but the iodide is insoluble or only slightly soluble, so as to produce a multi-phase system; continuing to thoroughly mix the multi-phase system; and separating and drying the formed agglomerates. In examples, the iodide is HI or NaI; the first solvent is acetone, triacetin, ethyl acetate, triacetin/ethanol, ethyl acetate/ethanol, water/ acetone or acetone/water/ethanol; and the second solvent is C 2 F 3 Cl 3 , n-hexane, CCl 4 , cyclohexane or tetrahydrofuran. The above granules may be complexed with elementary iodine by intensive mixing. |
