The machine has a reception tank where the mushrooms float in water to be picked up individually and carried in single file on an inclined conveyor rising gradually from the water. Oversize, undersize and deformed mushrooms are discarded from the conveyor and the accepted mushrooms are orientated with stalks projecting down through the conveyor for end trimming while the heads are held against the conveyor by an overhead travelling band. Stalk offcuts drop into a discard chute while trimmed mushrooms are conveyed on to be delivered separately. The inclined conveyor pref. comprises two spaced, parallel conveyor ropes. e.g. rubber cords, on which the underside of a mushroom head rests with its stalk projecting down through the ropes. The machine is pref. multi-channel, i.e. has several incline conveyors picking up from the reception tank. |
