The dice is intended for use in board games and similar pastimes and is made of any suitable material such as wood or plastic. It has twelve sides and is large enough to be held in the hand and thrown on a flat surface, as for standard pattern dice. Each side of the dice is shaped as a regular pentagon, all being identical in size and area. Corners and edges are rounded for easier rolling. Each face is marked with a different sign of the zodiac, one of these being uppermost when the dice comes to rest after being thrown.
