The compact hydraulic hub drive for a tracked vehicle has a hydraulic servo motor fitted into the hollow hub from one side of the drive wheel, with the hollow hub rigidly attached to the chassis. By unfastening fitting bolts (44) the motor may be withdrawn axially. The other side of the wheel has the epicyclic reduction gearing which can also be withdrawn axially by removing fitting screws. The wheel is supported on the hollow hub by bearings to provide a compact layout in which the motor and reduction gearing are arranged inside the width of the tracks. This provides maximum protection for the drive unit and prevents is being damaged with the tracks brush past rocks etc. The two parts of the transmission can be removed separately for separate repairs.
