Structure consists of a substrate coated with an antiskid compsn. comprising a hardened polymer (I) in which are dispersed particles of a porous, wearable and hydrophilic material (II). The compsn. is applied as a dispersion of (II) in a hardenable polymer, then hardened in situ. (I) is esp. a polyester derived from unsatd carboxylic acids, and copolymerised, using peroxide catalysts, with a vinyl cpd. such as styrene. (II) are pref. hollow spheres of dia. 1-55 mm with fragile walls, esp. of expanded clay. The structure are used esp. for vehicle brakes. The compsn. adheres well to rubber tyres even in the presence of moisture or oil.
