Removal of soot particles from hot process gases - with preinjection of aq. solns. or organic liquids as agglomerating agents

Hot process gases containing fine soot particles are passed through multi-cyclones after first adding an agglomerating agent which may be an aq. or organic liq. in amt. 0.75-1.1 kg per kg of solid to be removed. Used for the removal of ultra-fine carbon particles from process gases arising from high-temp. pyrolytic processes for heavy metal separation in the nuclear industries. Particles in the size range 10-8-2x10-7 m may be removed with efficiencies >90% in a form suitable for further handling or disposal and more cheaply than e.g. gas washers.
