Sailing boat with electric auxiliary drive - has sets of batteries which replace ballast in keel without altering profile

The sailing boat is fitted with auxiliary electric drive whose power is taken from batteries mounted on the keel. The batteries (16, 18) are shaped to fit inside the keel without altering the keep profile. They replace the ballast and thus do not add to the weight of the hull. The system allows the boats to use power in pollution controlled waters, where conventional power is banned, e.g. on reservoirs. The keel housing is designed with access to the batteries either from on top or through water-tight hatches underneath.
