1470248 Knitting REFINETZ AG 9 July 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 30289/74 Heading D1K [Alsoin Division A5] A garment of elastic fabric has bands or zones of different elasticity, at least one having a greater elasticity in one direction than another, the garment being formed by wales of chain-stitches of non-elastic threads interconnected by elastic threads knitted-in with the wale stitches, since parts of the wales having greater elasticity than others by virtue of variations in their frequency of intercomestic, all bands being knitted without breaks or seams. As shown, parts, eg. for medical use, are tubularly knitted both bands 4 and 6 of less elasticity than band 5. The fabric comprises wales 7, 8, 9 of non-elastic yarn, e.g. cotton, flax, wool, synthetic yarn, connected by elastic threads 10, 11 which are closer together in the zone 5. The elastic threads are knitted with the wales and, by their contraction under tension, tend to minimise running if the non-elastic yarn breaks or is cut. The garment is for use in supporting dressings and protective devices, such as bags for colostomy, and may be provided with an enlargement for the bag or a hole for access by cutting the threads at any point.
