The transmission system, for electronic telephone exchanges, reduces the number of lines needed to transmit and control call number and operating information between a multipurpose console and a desk set associated with it. The contents of memories and auxiliary memories in the desk set are passed to a multiple switchboard in cyclic sequence by a clocked counter. Clock pulses induce the multipurpose console to accept the information and despatch it to semiconductor stores, using the same pulses to determine distribution by cyclic interrogation of supplementary stores.
