The surface of the record is provided with a coating, max. thickness 10-1 um, of a long chain p-alkyl-benzol sulphon-giving improved electrical surface conductivity. The coating is pref. applied as a soln. in a liq. in a concn. which after drying provides the required layer thickness. The coating also acts as an anti-static medium. In an example a record surface was coated with a wear-resisting electrically conducting coating e.g. an antistatic medium 'Plexiklar' (R.T.M) thickness >0.1 um applied as soln. in distilled water which is subsequently dried off.
