<p>Enhanced cooling from fabricated stator frames esp. machines with laminated yokes (3), may be achieved by adding external ribbed plates (8, 9) which are fixed to the frame with adhesive. The plates and also the adhesive should have good thermal conduction properties if effective operation is to result. Typically the ribbed plates are profile section aluminium extrusions cut to the length required for the stator. The adhesive si preferably of the epoxy type and loaded with thermally conducting filler of which aluminium powder is a good example. The use of ribs in the manner described eliminates the need from welding onto the stator frame and thus removes the possibility of consequential damage.</p> |
