1470062 Bearings MARION POWER SHOVEL CO Inc 18 July 1974 [18 July 1973] 31920/74 Heading F2A A roller thrust bearing for a rotatable crane or excavating machine comprises an upper rail composed of arcuate segments 33 in end-to-end relation, a lower rail or arcuate segments 23 in end-to-end relation, a roller cage 43 having rollers 21 rotatably mounted therein between the rails with the rollers in bearing contact with the rails, and resiliently compressible padding 26, 35 interposed between the segments of at least one of the rails and a member by which the rail is carried. Imposed loads are thereby spread over more than one roller. The rail-carrying members comprise annular channels 24, 34, the lower one of which may contain a bed 25 of poured epoxy grouting. The segments are held in place by bolts 27, 37 which pass through threaded sleeves 28, 38 and are screwed into cross-tapped pins 29, 39 seated in apertures in the segment sides. Resiliently compressible washers 30, 40 are included. The pads 26, 35 are made from plies of cotton duck impregnated with a mixture of natural and synthetic rubbers. The rollers are provided with axial bores 54 containing locating sleeves 55 for attachment to the cage. The cage is centered by guide rollers 63 positioned at intervals around the periphery and mounted on bell-cranks acting against resilient washers 68.
