<p>An electronic computer address system derives address information from main memory and adds to content stored in index register. The sum denotes an effective address. The address in the main memory is denoted by a command word. The index register stores numerical values. The address information is represented by a word of N bits. The index register has a storage capacity of more than N bits and the main memory of more than 2N words. The first 5 bits of a command word (2) are in an operation code, the next 3 bits are in an index register code and the last 16 bits in an address code.</p> |
