A pipe cleaning device has an outer layer (7) of scouring cloth or fabric attached to a central elastically flexible body (5) of sponge material. The outer layer (7) has a set of angled grooves (11) cut into its section which run at an oblique angle to the central axis. This angle is roughly between 20 and 40 deg.. A pulling loop (25) is attached to each end. The grooves may be spiral grooves.
